THE POETRY OF ASPHALT : A ROADTRIP WITH OMOGENE S/S 16

From America to Japan, Tierra del Fuego to Alaska, and across Route66, the truckers drivers of the
world cruise the roads beyond the line of the horizon.
It is with the same impulse towards infinity that Alexis Giannotti gathers the colours and shapes of
this solitary journey, made of nostalgia, silence, romanticism, and unique visions of nature. Poetic
sunsets and sunrises meet the power and intricate design of trucks, but somehow everything
seamlessly comes together and takes form in a new collection which reflects the traditional
Omogene style.
For the 2016 Spring/Summer collection, Alexis Giannotti becomes a tightrope walker of land art,
drawing his inspiration from the voluminous style of the 80s, the obsessive use of the iconic jeans
jacket with patched pockets and transforms the stylistic features of trucks and landscapes into
sartorial details on his garments.
His knitwear designs feature four different tributes to life on the road: a landscape with an
overpowering red sunset, a stylised truck, the clouds and lastly truck grills. These patterns appear
repeatedly on all the knitwear and T-shirts of the collection. The raincoats feature very unique, if not
one-of-a-kind, lapels. The fabrics used are inspired by truck tarpaulins and the shapes are
oversized featuring long geometric patterns.
Thanks to a refined crossed-stitch technique, Omogene is able to create patterns that remind us of
the carpets we find in trucks; this effect is achieved also by using inlay work and jacquard, and
combining chiné, polyamide, Peruvian cotton, technical fabrics, drills and silk.
The new collection includes outerwear, jackets, jumpers, tunics reminiscent of long Indian robes;
work trousers in desert colours inspired by vintage postcards from Arizona, from the light tones of
face powder pink to intense brown, mustard yellow and yellow-brown, the red of the rocks and the
dark blue of the night.
This collection evokes Alexander Babich’s filter-free portraits as it is possible to perceive a sort of
“identification” between the trucker and his vehicle, or Amen Dunes’ alienating polaroid shots, his
words and psychedelic music. Omogene’s 2016 Spring/Summer Collection makes us feel as if we
are standing in front of a Hokusai-style Japanese landscape or admiring the Painted Desert of
Arizona.
